20 Most Terrifying Enemies In Video Game History

6. The Pest Control Man - The Cat Lady

As a storytelling medium, gaming's been used as a canvas to explore a plethora of themes and ideas for quite some time now, but depression is one topic that hasn't been delved into very often over the past few years, save for a few notable exceptions - with one of the best (and my personal favorite) being The Cat Lady, a brilliantly crafted and emotionally exhausting indie title.

The Cat Lady is a beautiful, moving story written with such startling clarity and insight that anybody's who's ever wrestled with depression will be moved to tears, guaranteed. It's also absolutely terrifying.

It's difficult to really discuss this game in depth without spoiling too much of the plot, but the basic setup goes like this: after committing suicide, Susan Ashworth is granted immortality and tasked with eliminating five "parasites" - serial killers and maniacs whose activities have gone unimpeded for far too long. These parasites are human in only the loosest possible definition of the word, and you could easily single out any one of them - but it's the Pest Control Man (and his wife, Gladys), that easily take the cake here.

These two sickos are sexually depraved, utterly inhuman, completely insane and take sadistic pleasure in everything from rape and mutilation to (possible) cannibalism. There's nothing more terrifying than the very real notion of human beings who kill, maim and murder simply because they love inflicting pain.
