20 Nintendo Games You Must Play Before You Die
8. Super Mario World (SNES)
Super Mario Bros. 3 was platforming perfection, but perfection can occasionally be improved upon, especially with more powerful console hardware at your disposal.
If ever there was a game that deserved to score 11/10 across the board at the time of release, it's SNES masterpiece Super Mario World. The gaming icon's 16-bit debut took everything that was great about the NES platformers and multiplied it by a mind-boggling figure.
Everything from the graphics to the sound was vastly superior, which came as no surprise considering the game was designed to showcase the capabilities of the SNES, but the vintage Mario gameplay had also been polished up to the extent that could see your face in it.
Dino-riding, spinning jumps and new power-ups were just a few of the shrewd tweaks that made an already-winning formula even better, compelling enough to keep players hooked until they'd found all of Super Mario World's 96 exits.
