The Image: Another Call of Duty game, and another level where we're mowing down hordes of bad guys, right? Wait, they're not gun-totting terrorists: why are are shooting civilians? Why It's Powerful: Easily the most provocative moment in the Call of Duty franchise is the super-controversial No Russian level from Modern Warfare 2, where the character plays an undercover soldier who falls in with Vladimir Makarov's terrorist outfit and is forced to take part in their brutal assault on Zakhaev International Airport. Whereas almost every moment of the CoD games has us mindlessly blowing away unambiguous bad guys without a care in the world, Infinity Ward asked us to think about the consequences of pressing the fire button, and as such gave players the choice to stalk through the airport without killing a single civilian. As such, it was up to us if we wanted to indulge in a base desire and start shooting up innocent people, or do the bare minimum in order to get through the level.
