20 PS2 Games That Prove It's The Best Console Ever

2. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

Though Metal Gear Solid 2 is still an amazing game, the third entry in the series was considered something truly special, in part because it completely broke away from the Solid Snake saga to explore a brand new part of the mythos.

Inspired more by James Bond than it was Escape From New York, Snake Eater was a perfect spy thriller in video game form, right down to its bombastic, OTT theme song.

Big Boss was functionally identical to Snake, but his character is far more tragic, and his relationship with the Boss immediately made him more than the one-dimensional baddie he had been portrayed as previously.

Like any other MGS instalment, the story is the biggest draw, but Snake Eater also offered a gameplay revolution for the series. Also, it let you kill a sniper by waiting for him to die of old age and barf up poisonous frogs you stupidly ate while low on health, making it instant GOTY material.
