20 Recent Indies That Put AAA To Shame
4. No Man's Sky's Redemption
No Man’s Sky might be a surprising addition to this list, given that it’s now almost ten years old (yes, it has really been that long).
Not only that, its initial release was one of the biggest gaming controversies of the last decade, as the developer had overpromised a ton of groundbreaking features, such as full randomization of every planet, only to deliver a barren galaxy filled with generic and procedurally generated aliens that looked like something that crawled out of a demented five-year-old’s drawings.
However, a lot has changed since 2016, and over the years Hello Games, the studio behind No Man’s Sky, has shown that even the greatest flops on the indie scene can learn from their mistakes and deliver an incredible product.
Unlike many abandoned AAA productions, No Man’s Sky is still cranking out huge updates, constantly transforming and improving the game. If you booted it up nine years ago, coming back to it will feel like a completely different experience that can actually live up to the hype it had originally created!
This kind of redemption arc definitely deserves praise and shows how important it is to listen to your game's community!
