Splatoon was one of the highlights of 2015 across all consoles, let alone the Wii U, and it makes you wonder why Nintendo doesn't dabble with new IPs more regularly. It also kind of makes you wonder why they didn't release Splatoon for, say, the N64 back in the 90s.

I guess back then no one thought that a shooter could be anything other than dark, violent and ultra-realistic, and it would've been competing against the might likes of Goldeneye and Perfect Dark.

But this image by The Regressor proves that - with its cute and colourful aesthetic - a hypothetical Splatoon 64 it probably would've stood the test of time better.
