Usually used for describing when a person can't be bothered to do something and instead is banging against a metaphorical wall, this phrase is much more literal in Dark Souls. Throughout both games there are multiple instances where the walls are in fact not all that they seem. Giving them a whack makes them disappear, revealing a secret room, a hidden chest or even occasionally a completely new area that you missed previously. Veterans of the first Dark Souls know very well that attacking walls often has its benefits. From Software, the devious minds behind these games, then decided to troll us all by opening illusory walls by pressing the X/A button on your controller, making many of us miss the illusory walls of DS2 until we finally clicked on. They're a devious lot over there at DS HQ.
8. The All-Out, Balls-To-The-Wall Crystal Lizard Scramble
In both games, crystal lizards make an appearance. These little blighters are extremely nimble, love running away as soon you get near them and are quite hard to hit as well. Sheesh, it's almost like they don't want to die! Trained Dark Soulers know exactly what they have to do as soon as they spot one of these creatures; sprint. You must run after them as quick as you can, get them into a corner and murder them before they vanish forever. Doing so will net you nifty rare ore that you can use to upgrade your weapons and is an essential task for those serious about getting awesome. Of course From Software knew about this scramble for the lizards when they were creating Dark Souls 2 - that's exactly why they decided to put in a red crystal version. 'Wow!' exclaimed the Dark Souls 2 gamer, expecting riches as he chased down one of these new and exciting red critters. This gamer - along with many others - was then blown into little bits as this lizard troll explodes when you get near enough. Yeah thanks From. It's not our fault you made us chase them.
