In Johnny Cage's introduction, we see the martial artist movie star shooting a fight scene before he walks off set, all while arguing with his director who bears a distinct resemblance to Steven Spielberg.

This wasn't intended to simply be a quick, silly gag, however: originally Spielberg himself, who is a huge fan of the video game franchise, had intended to make the cameo appearance himself.

Sadly, the ever-busy filmmaker couldn't make it to set due to scheduling conflicts, forcing Paul W.S. Anderson to instead hire Sandy Helberg as a stand-in character credited simply as "director."
