Rocket League has been celebrated as one of the first major games to truly champion cross-platform play, with the Xbox One version of the game adding cross-play with PC in May 2016, just a few short months after its launch on the console.

Unfortunately, despite the game releasing first on PS4, Sony were infuriatingly hesitant to activate cross-play, citing unconvincing security concerns while many accused them of refusing to play ball simply because they were "winning" the generation.

Even after the Switch version was released with cross-play in late 2017, Sony continued to play coy, and it wasn't until February 2019, almost four years after the game's release, that they finally allowed cross-play with PC, Xbox One, and Switch.
