2. Phalanx (Shadow Of The Colossus)

There are so many brilliant boss battles in Shadow of the Colossus that, frankly, any one of them could have wound up on this list, but the best of the lot is the thirteenth Colossus, Phalanx. He's probably one of the easiest bosses in the game, but he's also the most enjoyable and intense to bring down, a gigantic flying creature much like the fifth Colossus, and the key to victory is to puncture the sac-like objects underneath his body, which will lower his wings sufficiently that, while riding on your horse Agro, you will be able to leap onto the wing and begin searching for his sigils. If you're quick you might be able to stab all three sigils before Phalanx runs aground, but for most players this isn't the case and he will dive into the sand forcing you off his wing. Eventually he will resurface with repaired sacs forcing you to repeat the process again. It's not difficult - and the method itself is pretty damn simplistic - but the scale, the beautiful imagery, the music; it all adds up to make one of the most memorable boss showdowns ever.
