20 Video Game Hard Modes For True Masochists
18. Honour Mode - Baldur's Gate 3
Baldur's Gate 3 provides the player with hundreds of hours of gameplay filled with all manner of branching paths, difficult dialogue decisions, and, of course, challenging boss fights.
On a regular playthrough, every time you fail, you can always just reload the game, as you're allowed to keep multiple save files.
Not in Honour Mode, however. Here, one save is all you have, and if you die, it's game over.
Honor Mode is the greatest challenge and the biggest bane of save scummers that Baldur's Gate 3 has to offer. The game mode spikes up the difficulty by limiting the player to only one auto save, preventing them from reloading the game and effectively forcing them to accept every dice roll and outcome with grace.
This already makes things difficult, but it's actually just the tip of the iceberg for Honour Mode's extra punishments. Aside from the single save file, Honour Mode also limits you to only one death, and it buffs pretty much every boss in the game, giving them new and overpowered abilities.
It's like playing virtual Dungeons and Dragons against a dungeon master who really dislikes you.
