20 Video Game Side Quests That BROKE You
18. Expedition 46 (Clair Obscur: Expedition 33)
Some might shame a person for crying over a video game - but those people clearly haven't played Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. This masterpiece of an RPG is poised to strike with top-tier heartache at any moment. Given how often it likes to make you bawl, it's no surprise that the dedicated companion quests are so sad.
However, while Maelle's encounter with Alicia, Sciel's tragic past, and Monoco's mission to revive Noco are all tear-jerkers, there's something particularly painful about Lune's goal to find out what happened to her parents in Expedition 46.
This is far from a complicated mission to undertake; you simply venture to Sirene's Dress, battle an - admittedly tough - Chromatic Glissando, and then find Expedition 46's journal entry. Afterwards, you'll learn that Lune's mother perished fighting the nevron, with her last words being an assertion that Lune would continue her legacy.
As far as fates in this game go, it doesn't seem all too bad. However, after talking with Lune, you discover how cynical her relationship with her parents was. She laments that they saw her less as a daughter and more as a "backup plan for their legacy." The cold conclusion and lack of resolution sets it apart from the other side stories.
