20 Video Games That Defined 20 Years Of PlayStation

11. Killzone 2

Originally dubbed 'the Halo killer', the first Killzone was obviously Sony's response to Master Chief's growing popularity. Released in 2004, it was an incredibly impressive shooter from a technical perspective, but it failed to match up in the gameplay department. It wasn't until the second instalment that the series hit its stride, so much so that most people were willing to forgive Sony for showing jaw-dropping (but fake) debut 'gameplay' footage of the game back at E3 2006. The real second Killzone was a stunning shooter with uniquely weighty controls that made it feel like you were controlling an actual person instead of a camera that was somehow in possession of a gun. Nowadays, Killzone games are more known for their amazing visuals than their ability to murder Master Chief, and that can only be a good thing.

When I'm not playing games, I'm probably either writing about them somewhere or singing stupid songs inspired by them. Or eating pizza.
