20 Video Games That Defined 20 Years Of PlayStation

12. Twisted Metal 2

There are few games that let you blow up the Eiffel tower, but there are even less that let you do it in an ice cream truck that belongs to a psychotic clown with a head that's permanently on fire. In other words Twisted Metal is unique, but it has a lot more going for it than creepy-as-hell characters and casual terrorism. Sony's exclusive car-combat series is home to some of the best examples of the genre, with the PS1's Twisted Metal 2 being widely regarded as a classic thanks to its balanced, polished gameplay and memorable levels that made it perfect for playing co-operatively with a friend. Apart from the so-so Twisted Metal 3 and 4 that were handled by a different developer, there hasn't been a bad game in the franchise. 2012's PS3 instalment didn't set the world (or our heads) on fire, leaving the fate of the franchise up in arms. Despite its uncertain future, Twisted Metal has a lasting legacy spanning across 4 different PlayStation platforms.

When I'm not playing games, I'm probably either writing about them somewhere or singing stupid songs inspired by them. Or eating pizza.
