20 Video Games That Defined 20 Years Of PlayStation
6. Gran Turismo
Before Gran Turismo came along serious racing sims just weren't a 'thing' on consoles, because they lacked required processing power. In their typical style, Polyphony Digital laughed in the face of technical limitations and made Gran Turismo for the PS1 in 1998. It was an incredible game that single-handedly proved that consoles were capable of much more than arcade racers. There was something special about speeding round tracks in a Nissan Skyline GTR while rocking out to songs by bands like Feeder and Garbage. Even though it was a sim at heart, Gran Turismo was so accessible that even those that weren't massively into cars could have fun with it. It was the start of a franchise that would continue to test the limits of PlayStation hardware for generations to come. Gran Turismo 4 somehow managed to pull off HD visuals on the PS2, while the fifth game in the series displayed in glorious 1080p with an impressive attention to detail on the PS3.
