20 Video Games That Defined 20 Years Of PlayStation
7. God Of War II
The God Of War games mixed hack 'n slash gameplay with greek mythology and put an angry, bald badass incapable of talking quietly at the centre of it all. Even if he does only have one volume setting, Kratos is a very memorable protagonist that was never afraid to take on an enemy hundreds of times bigger than him. He was like an ant. A very angry, ferocious, chain-swinging ant. The second God Of War was one of the last big budget first-party games to release on the PS2, launching worldwide seven years into the console's life cycle. As a result, Sony Santa Monica were able to squeeze every ounce of power out of the ageing console, pushing out visuals so impressive that they didn't lag too far behind early efforts on the PS3. God of War II was the perfect way to say goodbye to the era of the PS2 and ended on a massive cliffhanger, making its PS3-bound sequel one of the most hotly-anticipated games in recent memory.
