OFF is a 2008 indie RPG with a truly unique eerie atmosphere that got a remake in 2025. You play as the Batter, a baseball player (or at least that’s what it looks like at first glance, without spoiling too much), who goes on a mission to “purify” his world.

The game begins with a short tutorial in Zone 0, where a disturbing-looking cat called the Judge shows you the ropes of combat.

The tutorial begins with the explanations of two types of combat, "Attack," which lets you fight manually, and "Auto," which plays the encounter for you.

The judge warns you NOT to use auto mode during the tutorial, as it could kill him. However, if you didn’t pay attention, or you just don’t care, you might pick Auto mode anyway.

The judge will snap at you for not listening, but at this point it’s already too late, as Auto mode is making your character attack him with no restraint.

You then have to awkwardly watch as the judge slowly dies, all the while he lashes out at your incompetence, until he finally drops to zero health, calls you an imbecile, and then drops the game over screen of shame.

Considering all you had to do was not press one button, the crash-out is completely valid.
