The Hype: A video game based on James Cameron's Aliens? Even though the Alien series' video game tenure has been inconsistent at best, that's a pretty irresistible pitch. What Happened?: Colonial Marines was an utter disaster: the cut-scenes looked about a decade out of date, the game was riddled with bugs which made the xenomorphs hilariously dance and stumble around, the graphics were underwhelming, it made the xenomorphs too easy to defeat, lacks consistency with the plots of the movies, and can be blasted through in just a few short hours. Post-release, it transpired that the game's production had been woefully mis-managed: Gearbox Software staff appointed to work on the game were transferred to work on Borderlands instead without Gearbox informing Sega (who were bankrolling the production), and much of the game's campaign was quietly outsourced to other developers in order to meet deadlines. Still, the game sold relatively well, proving that there's plenty of interest in the idea. Until another dev takes a stab at it, stick with the vastly superior Alien: Isolation, which adopts a more suspenseful, survival horror-esque tone akin to Ridley Scott's first movie.
