20 Years Of PlayStation: 20 Best Video Games So Far

7. Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped

Ask someone to think of PlayStation franchises and they'll almost certainly say 'Crash Bandicoot' right away. The loveable orange marsupial was born out of a 90s-style 'cool dude' aesthetic, but always backed that up with some supremely tight platforming, alongside animation that was incredibly progressive for its time. Code-maestros Naughty Dog always had an edge on the competition as they figured out exactly how to squeeze every last drop of processing power from the PlayStation hardware, which by the time they'd gotten to Crash 3, made for a game that was head and shoulders above everything else on the market. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2lemj-MCaY Levels and boss fights were more varied and gorgeous to take in than ever before, Crash's moveset had evolved far beyond his original spin and jump attacks, and they even threw in a bunch of alternate levels ranging from riding a thunderous motorbike, to backflipping skidoos and unlocking a Wumpa fruit-spewing bazooka. This is by far Crash's highpoint, and marks the last time Naughty Dog would release a 3D platformer featuring the character - one hell of a way to end such a spectacularly solid run.
