5. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
We tend to think of Uncharted as being this grade-A franchise that was always welcomed with open arms, but it simply wasn't the case. Instead, in Naughty Dog making the potent switch from extremely colourful and exuberantly animated characters through to what's literally 'a dude in jeans', it ended up being a slight misfire with the public, taking time to catch on. All that changed in a big way with the second instalment. We'd all become just that little bit too familiar with quick-time events back in 2009; something Among Thieves was set to shake up in every way possible. As the debut E3 trailer kicked in and we saw the Nolan North-voiced Nathan Drake bumble his way through a collapsing building set-piece whilst we were still in control, it was cause for celebration all round. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oG0ZHRfvdlg From then on in, Naughty Dog knew they had the world's attention, leading to not only one of the best-written cinema-meets-gaming experiences that gave Hollywood a run for their money in the acting stakes, but that delivered on bigger and better set-pieces across a near-20 hour runtime.
