2018's Biggest Video Game Protagonists - Ranked From Worst To Best

2. Arthur Morgan (Red Dead Redemption 2)

Living up to the rootin' tootin' charms of previous protagonist John Marston was never going to be easy - especially with Marston himself having a large role in the prequel - but Rockstar deserves credit for making RDR2's Arthur Morgan a grower of a protagonist.

It's easy to dismiss him as overly serious and even a bit boring to begin with, but as the story progresses and you're able to interact with the gang members at the camp, the hilarity of Arthur's gruffness begins to reveal itself.

A certain amount of Arthur's characterisation is naturally left up to the player to decide, though as is essential in his line of work, he's undeniably of the no-nonsense variety.

Things pick up significantly for Arthur in the final third of the game - though we'll hold the details in case you're not there yet - while Rockstar refuses to return to the same, sentimental family arc that served Marston so well last time.
