21 Best Hidden Gaming Gems Of The Decade (So Far)

18. Splinter Cell: Blacklist

2013 saw the best entry in the Splinter Cell franchise since Chaos Theory, but nobody batted an eyelid - because longtime voice actor Michael Ironside had abandoned the pipes of Sam Fisher, being replaced by TV's Eric Johnson. Ultimately it changed the character from wise-cracking near-retiree to a hard-nosed "Earn my respect"-kinda fella, one who wouldn't deviate from the mission even if it meant his own demise. Gameplay-wise though, this was the tightest experience yet, regardless of if you wanted to kit yourself up and sprint through guns blazing, hang back and pick people off from the shadows - or do both. The Mark & Execute function returns again, letting you rack up the kills and then mow through another group of goons with ease (or shoot your way out of an ambush in slow motion, Matrix-style, should the need arise). Johnson's new portrayal of Fisher wasn't the most true to the established character, but as an espionage thriller that moves at a solid pace and has one of Ubisoft's best teams bringing it all to life - this was arguably the best stealth experience available on the last generation of consoles.
