Much like Sony with the PS4 Neo, Nintendo made it abundantly clear ahead of time that their new NX platform would be totally absent from E3, and aside from a bizarre namedrop by Ubisoft, that totally turned out to be the case.

Still, considering that the console will release in around 9 months from E3, it seemed like a huge mistake not to unveil the console on a lavish conference show.

After all, Nintendo needs to rebuild a lot of goodwill following the Wii U's failure, and a long marketing campaign that cements brand awareness (after your average soccer mom had no idea what the Wii U was) would work a lot towards this.

Instead, it'll probably show up in a Nintendo Direct near the end of the year, which is just pretty underwhelming. It deserves a huge stage, surely?
