Hands up who's been around a mate's house and argued about who gets to play as a specific character for far too long?

Streets of Rage 2 is a truly amazing game. While the first in the series is perfectly fine, it pales in comparison to the second title. This one is bigger, bolder, better-looking and just more badass than the original was.

No matter how many times you play through this game, it never gets old. I speak from experience - when it was first released, myself and a friend would spend days playing this over and over again, beating the snot out of more Galsias and Y-Signal's than you could throw a lead pipe at.

And boy, that soundtrack. The tunes of SOR2 are truly memorable, with pulse-pounding beats and a unique style that still stands out from the pack of other games released around that time.

It just plays so, so good. Every character is unique and has their own strengths and weaknesses; enemy design is varied and exciting; the levels are distinct and beautifully designed and there's a level of fluidity that the first title just didn't have.

Although the recently-released Streets of Rage 4 is very, very good (seriously, buy it), it's still not quite as good as Streets of Rage 2, even all these years later. Grab a Genesis/Mega Drive Mini, a chum, and just lose your afternoon.

Thank me later.
