16. Mario Kart Wii

Mario Kart Wii
Nintendo

Sales: 36.38 million (#6)

Verdict: Another reliable entry into the esteemed Mario Kart franchise, this Wii version may not be much of a graphical leap from the GameCube's Double Dash, but it adds a number of welcome features nonetheless, such as the Wii Wheel to control the karts, the ability to perform mid-air tricks, and the introduction of motorcycles.

On the whole it's pretty much the Mario Kart you know and love, and it's a shame there wasn't more innovation in terms of tracks, but the core gameplay is as fantastically fun (and occasionally frustrating) as ever.

The addition of console multiplayer is a huge feather in the game's cap, even if it doesn't feel quite as innovative as titles both before and since.
