25 Best Selling Video Games Of All Time - Ranked

8. Grand Theft Auto IV

Sales: 25 million (#16)

Verdict: While hailed as an unqualified triumph upon release, fan reception to GTA IV has changed somewhat over the last 7 years, with many conceding that, though it was a largely terrific first outing for the series on the PS3 and Xbox 360, it also didn't feel as "complete" as it predecessor, San Andreas.

There's significantly less content in this game than SA, and the overt "seriousness" of the game compared to earlier titles was met with some concern. That said, on its own terms, it brought GTA into the truly "cinematic" realm, and was nothing if not a wild, visually stunning entry into the franchise.

It certainly suffers from being the "guinea pig" of the PS3/360 era, but it still offers more content than the majority of similar sandbox shooters released during the same period, so cut it some slack, OK? By any other standard, it's a classic.
