25 Best Selling Video Games Of All Time - Ranked

4. Tetris (1989)

Sales: 35 million (#7)

Verdict: Long before Tetris was re-released to the tune of 100 million in sales, it was, of course, a more modest (if still massively successful) title for a variety of computer and console platforms. The most successful of these versions was the 1989 Game Boy Tetris, which even the original game's designer, Alexey Pajitnov, deemed to be his favourite iteration.

From accurately capturing the feel of the original to multiplayer made possible thanks to the Game Boy's Game Link Cable, this version of Tetris captured the imagination of an entire generation and helped further popularise a title that, frankly, was already the King of the genre anyway.

It may have been out-styled by the glossier, more colourful updates over the years, but for many, the 25-year-old version remains the classic best.
