One of the first prolific indie titles to emerge fully-formed and ready to blow you away, Journey landed in 2012, looking about as unassuming and subtly beautiful in full as its small, hooded figures do when standing prone.

If Journey is still something you're yet to play, please, I implore you to skip to the next entry and simply experience it for yourself, as the game hits home best when you know little to nothing about it.

For the rest of us, we remember that feeling of discovering our first online companion, dropping down into the mysterious and terrifying cave systems with strange, flying creatures out for blood. We remember carving huge divots into the sand as we surfed the dunes in the setting sun, or battling the ice-cold winds on that final hill climb, before succumbing to the elements.

Journey is stunning to look at, majestic to breathe in and, if you look beyond the surface to engage with its cave paintings and symbolism, provides a very enlightening statement on the nature of life itself.
