25 PlayStation Games You Must Play Before You're 25
11. Bloodborne
Dark Souls may be over, but thankfully we've got Bloodborne to prop up the "hardest sh*t in the world" foundations anyway.
Playing just like Souls but with a Lovecraftian edge and slightly faster combat, Bloodborne transports you to the Victorian England-style town of Yarnham, a place where many accursed beasts are in need of slaying. Violently.
To focus too much on the Dark Souls comparison as a negative would be to miss the point entirely as to why Bloodborne is so brilliant - it's the perfected feel of weapons, and the intertwining level layouts that subtly loop you back to previous checkpoints to provide satisfying "A-ha!" moments.
It's the story told through dropped items and descriptions you can read, the replay value in experimenting with a completely different moveset, or risking it all to grind out some more enemies before 'cashing in' at a checkpoint. For all its gory set dressing, Bloodborne is moreish, almost as much as the mighty (and multiplatform) Dark Souls III.
