30 Best Video Games Of All Time
19. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Some say GTA III for pioneering the open-world crime genre, some say Vice City for delivering the best time period, some say GTA IV for being a dark and gritty evolution of the franchise and GTA V for being the most technically impressive, but it's San Andreas that represents everything we know and love about Grand Theft Auto overall.
The perfect mix of Rockstar's satirical humour and presentation, San Andreas encapsulates that older, more 'punk rock' mentality Rockstar used to exude before they'd fully given in to the big time. As a location, San Andreas perfectly represents a 90s rap aura that so many artists to this day harken back to, with one of the best soundtracks in gaming history backing every bullet.
From the cul-de-sac of Grove Street to the Las Venturas strip, the Cluckin' Bell fast food takeouts to base jumping off Mt. Chiliad - only to stop for a game of pool or a turf war to reclaim a lost borough - San Andreas had it all, remaining the most pleasantly experimental game in Rockstar's back catalogue.
