30 Best Video Games Of All Time
16. Super Mario Galaxy 2
Taking all the best staples of then-next generation Mario that were first presented - and mind-blowing - in Super Mario 64, Super Mario Galaxy 2 represents the pinnacle of Nintendo's platforming prowess in 3D.
With the first game already setting up the fairly plotless idea of Mario chasing down Bowser and Princess Peach across the cosmos, it's all we and Nintendo needed to create some of their finest, most inventive and charming levels yet. Sadly, the only slight knock against both Galaxy games is that you have to use motion controls.
Being on the Wii, Nintendo needed their biggest mascot to show off the respective hardware, meaning even if you'd dropped dollar on a Pro Controller, it wasn't compatible. Thankfully these motion waggle attacks didn't get in the way too much, allowing you to enjoy a seamless blur of power-ups, gorgeous levels, an incredible score and sumptuously refined animation - truly, if Mario Odyssey is anything close to a 'Mario Galaxy 3', we'll be in for a treat.
