30 Best Video Games Of All Time

14. The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time

Thanks to an exemplary remake that completely replaces the original when it comes to recommendations and the 1998 release that changed the face of gaming by itself, this is a dual entry for Ocarina of Time, and its 2011 3DS revamp.

The former joins Mario 64 as helping establish the rules on how to even 'do' 3D video games, with Zelda's various dungeon-crawling, item-collecting formulae transferring over fairly effortlessly. Never before had we seen the sun set behind Hyrule Castle or zipped up a cliff face with the Hookshot - and never before had we ridden a horse, engaged in now industry-standard lock-on targeting or nailed headshots with a bow and arrow.

All of these mechanical evolutions sit underneath a subversive fantasy tale where the hero actually messes up, helping enable a cataclysmic event that ostensibly ends the world, though it does then give you two distinct time periods to hop between and put it back together again.

With some of gaming's most iconic boss battles, solid puzzle design, great-feeling combat and tons of secrets to uncover (or fish to catch), Ocarina of Time will always deserve every last one of the accolades thrown its way over the years.
