30 Best Video Games Of All Time
25. Halo 3
Representing the zenith of a studio perfecting various FPS mechanics they'd thrown out years prior, Halo 3 took the original game's PC-first multiplayer and tightened the sequel's genuinely unfinished story to produce hands-down the best Halo there will ever be.
Outside the story wrapping up Master Chief's story (pretty much) across some of the most satisfying missions ever put to code, Halo's multiplayer saw Bungie really embrace the emergence of social media and online communities. Though the levels on-hand were designed to perfection, allowing for scores of opportunities to flank, fortify or get the drop on opponents, we also had the customisable Forge mode and a Theatre to watch our most glorious moments back in slow motion.
The final piece of the puzzle was equipment, shaking up the series' foundations by adding deployable Bubble Shields, Mines and Turrets. All of this rolled together into what is still one of the most fun multiplayer modes in gaming, representing a career high for Bungie who would then release Halo ODST and Reach, before leaving Microsoft to kickstart Destiny.
