Kirby is perhaps the first character you will have thought of when you read the title to this article. Hes the eponymous 'cute video game character' and its no wonder why. Essentially a puffed out pink blob, he looks much like a balloon or stuffed toy. Those big bright eyes and constant joyful expression certainly dont make him look unpleasant. In fact when watching him move around on screen it looks like what we would imagine candyfloss would resemble if it came to life. Kirby even seems to be constantly accompanied by a rainbow, thats just how lovely he is. If youve never wanted to get a tight hold on Kirby while playing one of his games then we simply dont understand what is wrong with you.
2. Weighted Companion Cube
Okay, youve got us. We accept that the Weighted Companion Cube isnt really a character. They offer companionship to test subjects who dont get interact with other living things. They have hearts on every side and some even hum when you approach them. Perhaps the best thing about the Weighted Companion Cube, except from providing the only friendship isolated humans get, is that theyll never threaten to stab you. At least according to GlaDOS. You can also get plushie versions of the companion cube and with that note feel free to go on order one right now, because who wouldnt want one of those?
1. SackBoy
It is easy to make a creature made entirely out of sacks look fairly scary. However Media Molecule managed to go in the other direction with their game LittleBigPlanet. Sackboys (and Sackgirls) are the inhabitants of the worlds created in the game and are only too happy to explore. They look like the type of stuffed toy you might get from an elderly relative who has knitted it just for you. This handmade look makes Sackboy so much more caring and you can immediately fall in love with him. LittleBigPlanet titles allow players to endlessly customise their own Sackpeople but no matter how hard you try its difficult to make them look anything other than adorable.
