30 Greatest RPG Video Games Of All Time

2. Mass Effect 2

Yet again, Bioware managed to make a sequel that was even better than the excellent original. By removing the parts people disliked from the first Mass Effect and expanding its best elements, this second part of the epic space opera is the best entry in the series. Mass Effect 2 is much more focused than its predecessor, with the aim being to recruit a badass team skilled enough to take on the evil Collectors.

The combat mechanics were greatly improved, while the dialogue and moral choices felt like they made more of a difference. Being able to transfer your save from the first Mass Effect - and having to live with the consequences of your actions from that game - was another high point of the series.

The writing is some of the best you'll find, with an incredible and immersive story. While the last suicide mission will test your ability to not cry at a game, such is the incredibly emotional connection you'll have to the characters.
