14. Final Fantasy Is Getting A Weird, Cutesy Spin-Off
Before they shocked the world with their Final Fantasy VII remake reveal, Square Enix unveiled World of Final Fantasy, a spin-off which they have created in an attempt to appeal to a wider base of gamers, namely those turned off by the complexity of the deeper mechanics in the core games. Square are eager for families to enjoy the game as a shared experience, evidenced by the cutesy bobblehead-looking characters (including renditions of a number of iconic familiar faces) and less-serious focus on silly quests such as taking care of Chocobos. It's coming out for both PS4 and Vita in 2016, and while the visual style looks fine for its purpose, it remains to be seen whether a) the core FF fanbase will go for it and b) it'll manage to capture that family demographic.
