8. Fallout Meets The Sims In Mobile-Exclusive Fallout Shelter
One of the big shockers from Bethesda's conference was that they weren't merely content to trot out Fallout 4, which would've been plenty. They also created a mobile phone companion game, Fallout Shelter, in which the player controls the overseer of a user-created Vault, where they make and manage their own fallout shelter. Fallout 4's director Todd Howard went on to say that the game was inspired by X-Com, SimCity and Faster Than Light. The dwellers all have full stats, and you have to send some of them off into the Wasteland while you manage resources such as food, water and power. Sometimes raiders will attack, too, so you need to be ready for that. In addition, the game is free-to-play but with no paywall timers, nor any Internet connection needed. Howard did very quickly sneak into the demo that extra lunchboxes (which contain loot for your followers) can be bought with microtransactions, though these are said to be non-intrusive. And what's more? It was released immediately after Bethesda's conference on the App Store. Reviews so far have been relatively positive, but frankly, it's just such a shock that Bethesda even bothered getting something like this made when they've got so much on their plate already. Kudos.
