5 Classic Video Game Franchises That Didn't Survive The Generation Jump

4. Tony Hawk

tony-hawk-hd-600x300 Tony Hawk was a household name, even to those who didn't care for skateboarding (much like myself €“ unless you count riding them down a hill on my backside). Nobody really knew what a kickflip was exactly, just that these games were highly addictive, with incredible soundtracks. Throw in a few fun bonus characters (Darth Maul, obviously) and you've got a bonafide success. But (and there's always a but) people just stopped caring; not since the PS2 has anybody really invested in this skateboarding malarkey, and it's all gone downhill, as kids are lead more by deplorable reality TV than the urge to go out and jump over things. Admittedly, there hasn't been a main series release since 2007, but doesn't that say a lot about the distinct lack of interest? The Xbox 360 marked Tony's downfall; as the series aged, the reviews and sales slumped, and Mr Hawk was dumped and put on the back burner. Only a handful of spin offs have been released since then (including a call back to Tony Hawk's Pro Skater heyday) but they've all been sadly ignored. Even the bonus characters have suffered: long gone are the days of Shrek and Spiderman. All that's left is some tattoo artist and couple of guys from Metallica. No thank you.
