5 Classic Video Game Franchises That Didn't Survive The Generation Jump

2. Tekken

tekken At the end of the day, if you've played one Tekken game, you've played them all. For the genre it is, there's very little leeway in what you can always expect: one character fights another, the only difference being their name, outfit and a slight variation in move set and combos. As the series has aged, it's tried to implement a variety of new features: though some have been quite creative and innovative, strip them back and you're left with the same game you played on PS1 all those years back, only without your Capri Sun and Billy Bear ham sandwiches. That's not a criticism on the series itself, it's tried hard to encourage people to continue buying the games, but you could easily skip a release, save yourself £30, and go buy that jumper you've always wanted that Debenhams finally have on offer. Tekken hasn't released a main series game since 2009 (spin offs don't count). Why? Because it just so happens that the arcade style of gameplay is outdated in this new generation of gaming. Again, that's not Tekken's fault, but you're only going to play that new, original story mode once. That's just the harsh reality of it. You're better off digging out your old PS1 from the attic, dusting off Tekken 3 and giving that a whirl. It's the same game as Tekken 6 at the end of the day, just without the fodder of characters you don't care about.
