In a game full of difficult bosses, Maya stands out for many reasons. It will counter every magic attack with an instant death attack that is completely unblockable and 100% accurate. It also has an ability called Illusionary Ritual, which doubles her evasion and accuracy, making her almost unhittable at times. She can also use all high level elemental attacks in the form of stronger moves. The only saving grace is her weakness to regular gun/piercing attacks. Gun skills from the main character still count as magic and will be greeted with an instant game over. These examples are a few of many cases of difficult bosses. It is a given that Atlus, Inc., the developer behind Shin Megami Tensei with a history of making difficult games, will continue the tradition of creating difficult bosses with the advent of Shin Megami Tensei IV.
