5 Gaming Side Characters Who Somehow Got Incredibly Famous

1. Pikachu

pikachu sleep The grand champion of all minor characters who would go on to become a huge hit in their own right. In the mid nineties when the world was firmly focused on the emerging Nintendo 64, Playstation and Sega Saturn and all the pretty polygons these systems would produce who would have thought the biggest money maker in gaming for the next decade would have got their first appearance on the humble original Game Boy? When Pokemon Red and Blue came out there were 151 new characters all with the potential to become cuddly toys and T-shirts, and Pikachu was simply...one of them. In terms of the game Pikachu wasn€™t prominent as a starter Pokemon, or as legendary Pokemon. All Pikachu was, was just another of the long list of catchable creatures on offer. But then the TV cartoon happened, and our little electric mouse friend became the star. So popular is the little fella that Nintendo were able to rerelease the first generation Pokemon game as a special Pikachu yellow cartridge edition. What did it offer that the previous games didn€™t? Almost nothing. Then the Pikachu Nintendo 64 came out, and Pikachu was the cover mouse of pretty much every spinoff Pokemon game that came out. It€™s still a crying shame that Hey You Pikachu on the Nintendo 64 has never seen light on day in Europe.
