5 Little-Known Japanese Gaming Gems You Need To Play

3. Mister Mosquito (PS2) (2001)

http://youtu.be/0yFHZk0-eFI A game in which you play as the most infamously sadistic killer of our times: The Mosquito. Playing as cute blood sucking Mosquito, you take residence in the Yamada household, a typical Japanese family totally unawares to the cute but deadly menace that now inhabits their home. The objective of the game is simple: Drain the blood of each family member without being detected. The game employed a mixture of free roaming stealth mechanics and quick aerial reaction times. Think Splinter Cell crossed with your basic flight simulator: Strange, huh? Players have to observe the family as they live out their daily existence. 'Drain spots' are timed and only appear briefly throughout the levels. Once you have locked onto a specific body part of an unaware Yamada, a 'Stress Meter' appears as you drain the blood. Incorrectly timing the draining, either sucking to fast or to slow, will alert the victim to your presence. The swift impact of a giant hand spells instant death for the player. One level has you attempting to land upon the body of a semi-nude woman, possibly making this game the world first voyeuristic insect simulator. Only in Japan... I can't complain about immaturity in video games; it took me a huge amount of willpower to not add a €œThat's what she said€ into the previous paragraph. Thankfully, the game was released outside of Japan and is still available for those who've always wanted to play as a cute, blood sucking mosquito.
