5 Most Atmospheric Modern Video Game Soundtracks

4. Red Dead Redemption

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6tcs0_NAUI Speaking of horses, Red Dead Redemption offers up the wild frontier: a brutal landscape, cutthroat outlaws, and a journey as perilous as the west is open. Thieves and untrustworthy scoundrels roam the plains, and you ride as a lone wolf in this game's engaging world. Soundtrack is among the most intense as it will ever get in a game like this. The sparse guitar twangs and the mounting percussion interlaced with foreboding harmonicas all work in conjunction to give you the feeling of being out on your own in a wild country. Bill Elm (known for his guitar antics in the band Dirty Three) and Woody Jackson create compositions that are as sprawling as the desert itself. Building on an amalgamation of classic moods from spaghetti western films, the soundtrack for Red Dead Redemption reminds us of how a video game can be much more powerful than a movie in that it places us within the situation, and we are not on rails. Suddenly, we are the ones experiencing the thrills. Many of those thrills are by our own hand. Or a mountain lion.
