Maybe there are just as many females who play games as males. Fine, we won't argue that. But they're just playing things like Farmville or whatever other smartphone games they can get for $1.99, right? Actually, no. The reality of female gaming habits is surprising if you'd never read up on it before.

A 2014 study by SuperData Research broke down multiple genres within video games and the statistics of males and females who play said genres. What the study showed was that out of several thousand respondents, approximately 1/3 of those who play massively multiplayer online (MMO) games are females. That means about 34% of those playing Guild Wars, WoW, or SWTOR are females. The same goes for first person shooters.

That's just the start, though. Females account for approximately 54% of RPG players, and just over 50% of PC gamers. They also comprise about 58% of mobile gamers and 37% of digital console gamers.

So yeah, maybe females are playing a bit more than just iPhone games.
