5 Notorious Video Game Software Failures

2. Radar Scope

radarscope640x480jw4 This is the first game from the plumber and princess infatuated mind of Shigeru Miyamoto. It flopped, yes a game created my Shiggsy managed to flop, sort of. Radar Scope was an arcade cabinet game where you played as the captain of the Sonic (oh my) Spaceport, a shooter in the vein of Space Invaders, but with more annoying noises it seems. Radar Scope managed a brief moment of popularity in Japan behind Pac-Man, which was enough to convince the president of the American branch of Nintendo to draw up a large order for the cabinets to ship out to arcade venues across the country. The order was a slow process and by the time it was completed the buzz for the game had died significantly. Americans found the sound effects to be too loud and annoying (rest of the world: how ironic!) (Only joking) which in turn left Nintendo of America with thousands of unused Radar Scope cabinets in storage. Shigeru was tasked with the challenge of fixing the game for the yanks to enjoy, but instead he created a brand new experience called Donkey Kong, which managed to save the day and become one of the most popular arcade games of all time. Super Shiggsy to the rescue! A Nintendo legend was born. He has nothing but his high pitched noise loving self to thank for his own success, and the complaining Americans who were not interested in developing tinnitus.
