4. Goldeneye 007 Graeme Norgate/Grant Kirkhope
Who doesnt remember the tappity-tap of the Antenna Cradle, or the daft, kitschy elevator theme? Goldeneye 007s iconic backing music is so instantly recognisable to anyone who owned an N64 its like a subconscious hypnotic trigger; just a few seconds of Norgate and Kirkhopes Eric Serra-inspired synthesizery is more than enough to make a Goldeneye veterans eyes glaze over. Like Tobins work, the range on display here is remarkable. Up-tempo poppy ringtones like Facility and Control blend into the low-key Soviet drones of Statue Park, Depot and Surface, a track best remembered for turning the James Bond franchise into survival-horror. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13ZoeMG68yM Though undeniably cheap sounding, Goldeneye 007s score does more for Bonds suave than Eric Serras movie equivalent ever did: John Barrys 007 Theme weaves fluidly in and out of every one of Norgate and Kirkhopes iconic tracks. It doesnt matter if youre crouched in a vent with your laser watch, or chopping up Russians with your RCP-90 Goldeneyes music lets you feel like Bond. From the opening guitar riff of Dam, to the closing echoes of Egyptian, Goldeneye 007s music is infectiously catchy and perfectly paced, best accompanied by the steady bang-bang of a PP7.
