Who doesn€™t remember the tappity-tap of the Antenna Cradle, or the daft, kitschy elevator theme? Goldeneye 007€™s iconic backing music is so instantly recognisable to anyone who owned an N64 it€™s like a subconscious hypnotic trigger; just a few seconds of Norgate and Kirkhope€™s Eric Serra-inspired synthesizery is more than enough to make a Goldeneye veteran€™s eyes glaze over. Like Tobin€™s work, the range on display here is remarkable. Up-tempo poppy ringtones like Facility and Control blend into the low-key Soviet drones of Statue Park, Depot and Surface, a track best remembered for turning the James Bond franchise into survival-horror. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13ZoeMG68yM Though undeniably cheap sounding, Goldeneye 007€™s score does more for Bond€™s suave than Eric Serra€™s movie equivalent ever did: John Barry€™s 007 Theme weaves fluidly in and out of every one of Norgate and Kirkhope€™s iconic tracks. It doesn€™t matter if you€™re crouched in a vent with your laser watch, or chopping up Russians with your RCP-90 €“ Goldeneye€™s music lets you feel like Bond. From the opening guitar riff of Dam, to the closing echoes of Egyptian, Goldeneye 007€™s music is infectiously catchy and perfectly paced, best accompanied by the steady bang-bang of a PP7.
