When video games first entered the scene in the early 70s, no one foresaw the multi-billion dollar industry it would become. Video games have branched out into every branch of media possible. There is no such thing as a typical gamer. Women play video games as much as men do. Video games cater to every single age group and provide entertainment for hours and hours. In a way, the popularity of video games has hurt Sony. Who needs a PS Vita if you can play games on your Kindle Fire? Why bother turning your PS3 on when you can just reach for your smart phone and get your gaming fix. So, the biggest reason why Sony is struggling?...plain ol competition. If Sony continues to eek by with bland console exclusive games and middle of the pack technology, the industry as a whole will suffer. The downward spiral didnt happen overnight. Bad decisions and questionable strategy helped create a 5.6 billion dollar hole that might be too deep to recover from. But, you dont reach the top without knowing what the bottom feels like. With innovation and game-changing titles, Sony can restore its credibility. Easily said than done, but I wouldnt bet against Sony.
