5 Reasons Why Total War: Rome II Could Be The Best Game Of 2013

1. More Reactive AI

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaDlihIqPws One of the weaknesses of the Total War series in the past has been the AI which at times can let the otherwise brilliant game down. Keeping relations with other factions can often feel forced and any alliances feel flimsy and not very binding. The player generally feels like the best option is to €œgo it alone€ and try and conquer everyone. This isn€™t very historically accurate as most countries would have alliances which more often than not would have been well honoured. The battlefield AI can also be a letdown as the AI often doesn€™t feel as smart as a real player would. The Creative Assembly team have tried to remedy this by introducing a new style to siege battles which attempts to create a €œcat and mouse€ feel to capturing a city. There will now be multiple capture points within cities and rather than just fall back to one position the defender has to think of how they can fend off the attacker as best as possible in multiple ways. The attackers is now encouraged to attack the city at multiple points as they no longer just have to go to the square in the centre of the city. This should help to make siege battles feel more realistic as the idea of holding the central plaza for 2 minutes to try and capture a city sometimes felt a bit silly. The new decision making style to diplomacy introduced in Shogun II will also be refined as players will make more decisions which will influence the progression of their faction and way they are treated by others later in the game. When playing as Rome the players€™ decisions will influence whether it stays as a Republic or becomes an Empire or even goes back to a kingdom. Another new interesting change is that the rebel faction which has been previous in most other installations of the game will now be replaced with smaller factions while Greece will also be made into several city states rather than one faction. This should help to make the game feel more realistic with more historical accuracy. The absence of the rebel faction could also make the game a lot better as in previous games their presence didn€™t feel natural to the era. Overall, these five new featuresl plus many more that are yet to be announed, look set to make this the best Total War game ever and for any PC Gamer make it is a must-have in 2013.
