5 Ridiculously Outdated Video Game Trends

2. Big Breasts

Dcf 600x3001As used in: Dragon's Crown and most JRPGs. What the? Have you seen...? How does she stand up? How does she live day to day life? Do you think she has to go to a special store to buy clothes? Jeez... This is Dragon's Crown, an RPG-style brawl-em-up which often includes unrealistic depictions of women. To be fair, the depictions of men are pretty unrealistic too. Now, there's been a lot of talk about the scarily bosomed Sorceress (who looks like she's swallowed two life jackets and they've become lodged in her rib cage) and the scantily clad Amazon (a rather hunky lady, who wears next to nothing and punches anyone who stares). Apparently, Dragon's Crown's women are meant to be a satire on the industry as a whole, with their morose fixation on breasts and nudiness. But if you didn't know that, Dragon's Crown is just another game based around objectifying women. This has been a problem for quite some time. Who can forget the old style Lara Croft, with her big blocky breasts, traversing the wilderness in the smallest pair of shorts possible. Thankfully, it does seem that this issue is getting resolved. The new Lara is more well proportioned and strong female characters are starting to come into games. The likes of Alyx Vance, Femshep, Ellie and Elizabeth mean games like Dragon's Crown stand out as an exception.
