5 Things The Destiny Beta Is Doing Very Right

1. The Graphics

Bungie know how to build a memorable world; remember that first time you saw Halo from the Pillar Of Autumn? Then when you landed on the ring and you saw the horizon sloping up and above you? Yeah, they're seasoned pros at this kind of thing and Destiny is no exception. The look of The Traveler alone, a sort of white-washed half built Death Star, perching scant metres above a planet surface is iconic enough, but the locations themselves are bristling with detail and character. Take the central hub location of The Tower, overlooking The City. You can stand at the edge of a balcony and peer out over this stunning vista encapsulating an enormous city that stretches for miles. The last of humanity, crammed into a place that could not look more beautiful. The detailing on the character models is better than most people expected, with cloth and fabric being detailed enough to show actual stitching when the camera comes close up on a Guardian. Armour shines and glints in the sunshine as the smooth, almost alien metals reflect the sun in a realistic manner. The weaponry looks and feels mechanical, with clips or rounds being loaded with distinct metallic clunks, clacks and thuds. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TljtC5qnb-s Then there are the combat levels, such as the tutorial level involving The Wall (we hope everyone picked up on the irony of Peter Dinklage directing you towards The Wall, incidentally) or the Cosmodrome in the ruins of Old Russia. Both look suitably dilapidated, futuristic yet ancient and are swarming with enough enemies to make even the Master Chief mess his armour. Everything in the environment feels real, looks real and it all adds up to being one of the best looking games on the current generation of consoles. Bear in mind too, that this is a beta test, the game isn't even finished yet. Destiny gets so many things right, it's a guaranteed success for Bungie and Activision, given how impressive the beta test alone is, the full game is going to be mind blowing.

I am a man of many interests. I am a passionate gamer, running my own YouTube channel (The Gadget Addicts) showing off the best of modern gaming in the form of Let's Play videos. I am an ardent musician, having been a guitarist for the past 13 years. I am also a massive geek, I adore science fiction and fantasy films and TV shows and am trying to work up the courage to start writing a novel. If I can ever think of a good story to tell... I live with my wife in the North East of England and own a belligerent little black cat.
